The State of Indiana will always be considered the home of basketball. During the 2016-17 NBA season, the Indiana Pacers looked like they were taking a step in the right direction to continue that trends. While the team did take a step forward, there season came to a quick end during the first round of the playoffs (http://www.nwitimes.com/sports/basketball/professional/pacers/pacers-swept-from-playoffs/article_caa154a7-10f8-5034-a8f8-24df887d9063.html).
The Indiana Pacers were one of the hotter teams in the NBA during the last few weeks of the regular season. This late season push allowed them to jump into the playoffs and earn the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Unfortunately, this progress ended up getting them a date in the first round against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavaliers, who are the defending champions of the NBA, were the heavy favorites to win the series.
As expected, the Cavaliers won the series by winning four straight games against the Indiana Pacers. While the Cavs did win by a sweep, the series was far closer than others would have thought. The Pacers played very well in all four games and took each game to the very end and the largest loss was by only 6 points.
While the Pacers did not advance in the playoffs, they do look poised to make a big move in the coming years. The team will continue to be led by Paul George, who is one of the top scoring players in the league. While the team will need to draft well, they have a chance to improve even more next year.
