Prior to the start of the 2017-18 NBA season, one team that was expected to struggle all year was the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers had just come off of a down season and had lost their star player, Paul George, in a trade to Oklahoma City. While most did not expect the Pacers to do as well, the team ended up winning 48 games and earned the number 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Pacers are now in the first round of the playoffs against the Cleveland Cavaliers and they look poised to make it a very challenging series for the LeBron James-led team (http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2018/04/cleveland_cavaliers_at_indiana_5.html). Through the first two games of the series, both the Cavs and Pacers have won one game. As the series continues there will continue to be a significant focus on the Pacers’ ability to control LeBron James. During the first game of the series, the Pacers were able to control James and stop the rest of the team. However, in Game 2, James stepped up and once again looked like the best player in the world.
For the Pacers to continue to play well against the Cavs, Victor Oladipo will need to continue to score. Oladipo looked like a real surprise all season long and ended up having an All-Star caliber year. During the season he ended up being one of the league leaders in scoring and he showed that the team has a very bright future despite the loss of George last year.
