Neurocore- The Center for Non-Traditional Psychotherapy

Every year, about 16 million U.S. adults are affected by major depressive disorder.

Family history and stressful circumstances in life are two factors that can increase the risk for depression. There are many classifications of depression. Major Depressive Disorder is the most persistent depression type that can interfere with your life. Persistent Depressive Disorder is a long-term form of depression, but it is milder than major depressive disorder. Postpartum Depression is experienced after childbirth. Seasonal Affective Disorder commonly occurs in seasons (i.e. winter) when days are shorter than nights. Depression signs may not be obvious in people with high-functioning depression. The physical effects of depression are headaches, stomachaches, and breath shortness. Depression is a major issue in the workplace as it can impair productivity. In some cases depressed people become disabled. Patients with depression can cost the U.S. economy $80 billion per year. More funding should be allocated to depression research. Medications and therapy aren’t usually sufficient for treating severe depression cases. Sufferers of clinical depression may want to consider neurofeedback therapy as a treatment option.
