Larry Bird Leaving Indiana Pacers
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and the state of Indiana is often considered the home of basketball. While the state has produced a lot of different legends in the sport, the greatest of all is Larry Bird. Larry Bird was born in a small town in Indiana and went to Indiana State University. Ultimately, he moved on to the NBA where he won several championships and was considered one of the best players of all time.
After playing for the Boston Celtics for his entire career, Bird eventually retired and moved on to the coaching and front office side of the business. However, it now appears that this part of his career may be coming to an end (http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19264939/larry-bird-stepping-president-indiana-pacers). Bird, who most recently served as the President of the Indiana Pacers, announced that he will be resigning from the position.
Bird has been a member of the Pacers organization for over a decade. He originally was the coach of the team for nearly five years and had some success, including being named NBA Coach of the Year. Ultimately, he moved into the front office role and oversaw all operations of the franchise. Under his leadership, the Pacers turned into a consistent playoff contender. The team has had a lot of talented players over the past few years, but has not been able to get over the hump to win a championships. Further, the team could be losing a few key players over the next few years due to free agency.
