The Fast and Furious franchise is going to be part of the cinema landscape for years to come. When the first film debuted, the feature was a solid hit. Sequels were expected. What no one expected was the films becoming multi-billion dollar global smashes.
Fast and Furious 8 starts shooting very soon. The film is slated for an April 2017 release date. Universal Pictures is not exactly slowing the production of the franchise down. The studio has provided release dates for parts 9 and 10. Both will also receive April release dates in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
Bloomberg has reported that Jon Urbana has now raised over $1,000 for Earth Force, a cause that the entire cast of Fast and Furious 8 supports.
Choosing April as the repeated release month makes good business sense. If audiences have responded well to spring debuts, then there is no reason to make any changes. April might seem like an odd month because the big franchises usually get summer releases. The massive money Fast and Furious earns at the box office shows April is hardly a bad month to open the film.
The Fast and Furious films have a massive worldwide audience. Young persons pack theaters to watch the new exploits of their favorite street racers/crime fighters. These movies are perfect escapist entertainment, and the various entries in the serious are a nice alternative to popular superhero films. Ironically, the characters in the Fast and Furious movies are a lot like superheroes. Instead of mysterious superpowers, however, the cast members revel in their amazing fighting and driving skills. As fantastic as the franchise is, audiences are still able identify with the more human characters.
For fans, those Aprils can’t come soon enough.
Remakes of older movies are the trend of late. In most cases they do not measure up, simply because they fail to capture the spirit of the original movie. Jurassic World does not have that problem because the original director, Steven Spielberg, is back on the set.
Where Jurassic World goes right is being able to keep some of basic themes of the original while maximizing the use of modern CGI technology. The dinosaurs are bigger than ever, yet they do not smother the storyline in the process. That is why the movie is set to reach $1 billion at a record pace.
For Spielberg to worry about the competition, in this case Ted 2, the story of an adolescent stuffed animal that is trying to prove that “teddy bears are people too,” is laughable stated Brian Torchin. The biggest problem with any comedy movie is that everybody’s tastes are different in what makes us laugh. But drama is drama, and romping through a dinosaur park still appeals to the adventuresome side of young and old.
The only hope for Ted 2 is that the pool of people who have not seen Jurassic World is drained. Ted 2 may end up like a lot of sequels – overdone and lacking in original content. Jurassic World is better than Jurassic Park because is uses the same basic elements, only with greater effect. It took actor B.D. Wong a while to realize that, but he is back.

Original productions seem to be a tough sell in Hollywood these days. With the box office disappointment of an original movie like “Tomorrowland” and the incredible success of sequels like “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Jurassic World,” new story ideas present a challenge. Still, there will always be those who will pioneer into the unknown to keep audiences invigorated with original stories. There appears to be such a movie coming, and it is called “Passengers.”
This new film may have an advantage over other fairly original stories in that it is packing a powerhouse cast. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt will be teaming up in this movie
, which looks to be a combination science fiction, drama and romance from early descriptions. Jennifer Lawrence is box office gold after playing the lead in the immensely successful Hunger Games films, and Chris Pratt is the star of “Jurassic World,” which is only the movie that just grabbed the honor of having the biggest opening weekend ever. The basic premise of “Passengers” has to do with a group of people in hibernation aboard a spacecraft, but apparently Pratt’s character awakes many decades too early, and he wakes Lawrence’s character rather than living out his life alone. If these two can’t guarantee the success of this film when it releases, then everything else about it would have to be awful. Just ask Jim Dondero
and other fans.
It has been quite a while now since the passing of the famous actor and Saturday Night Live comedian Chris Farley, and recently David Spade gave a heartwarming token of appreciation for the late actor and one of his dearest friends.
According to an article found on reddit and written by the Huffington Post, Spade keeps a poster of the duo’s famous movie “Tommyboy” which the two of them are well known for being in. The movie is coming up on its 20th anniversary and it has given David Spade a lot to reflect on.
Chris Farley was a very talented actor who had a tragic death that was not expected and very sudden, and it is always difficult to lose a celebrity that we can identify with and who makes us laugh on a day to day basis. The death of Farley was over a decade ago now but his spirit lives on in the films he was in and the episodes of the live comedy special. He is most well known for movies like Tommyboy and many of his characters from the live skit, as is David Spade.
Spade feels very lucky to have done Tommyboy with Farley and that they could share the good times from that movie, and looking at the poster is just making him feel old, apparently. He has done articles with AustinMDMagazine to talk about what he was inspired by. Stars like Christ Farley will live on forever with the fans like Dr Jennifer Walden who pay attention.
