Indy Burger Week kicked off on Monday, June 12, 2017, and ends on Sunday the 18th. This week, you can get fabulous burgers for only $5 from participating restaurants. Proceeds from the event will go to help the 15.3 percent of Hoosiers who are facing food insecurity.
More than one million people in Indiana do not have regular access to enough food for everyone in the household to enjoy a healthy, active life, according to the USDA. While they may not face food insecurity all the time, they occasionally have to make difficult choices between putting food on the table or meeting other essential expenses, like paying household or medical bills.
How to Have the Best Indy Burger Week Experience
This is your chance to try something new. Among the delicious burgers available during Indy Burger Week are:
- Aloha burger, made with teriyaki, swiss cheese and grilled pineapple on a pretzel bun.
- Hot Mess, consisting of fresh ground beef topped with onions that have been carmelized in Jagermeister, with muenster cheese and special Jager sauce served on a buttery brioche bun.
- Peanut Butter and Jelly Time, with fresh ground beef topped with peanut butter, house jalapeno jam, onion, lettuce and tomato on a toasted brioche bun.
Indy Burger Week takes care of its vegetarians, too. Try a Baja Burger, with queso fresco, black bean edamame salsa, guacamole and pea shoots on a brioche bun, or a black bean burger, made with a mixture of back beans, oats, corn and rice and a special blend of seasonings.
Dozens of restaurants throughout the state are participating, each one of which serves up specialty burgers like those above. Normally, these would easily set you back $10 or $15. Show your support to these generous restaurants by purchasing drinks and a side.
