11 Indiana Counties Declared Disaster Emergency Areas

Indiana is one of several states that has received a massive amount of rain within a very short period of time. This has caused very dangerous flooding conditions that have put the lives of many people in jeopardy. In fact, Governor Eric Holcomb has made the decision to declare 11 counties in Indiana disaster emergency areas. Additional rain is expected to hit Indiana in the state’s southern region. Therefore, it is possible that more counties will be added if the flooding becomes too intense in those areas. A disaster emergency declaration means that additional services can be provided to those counties by the Department of Homeland Security.

This declaration by Governor Holcomb could eventually lead to a request of additional federal assistance in the state if it is determined that the flooding is severe enough to warrant it. The American Red Cross and the National Guard have both offered their services to disperse aid to those people who have been affected by the flooding. Governor Holcomb toured several counties where the flooding was the worst in order to determine the extent of the damage. He will attend a meeting of the National Governor’s Association that is being held in the nation’s capitol. He will come back to Indiana on Sunday.

The governor is scheduled to tour more parts of the state that have been damaged by the flooding when he returns. However, it is not yet know which counties he is going to inspect. Reports have indicated that he will ask for national assistance.
