Betsy DeVos Supports The School System In The U.S. By Donating Millions Of Dollars To Educational Nonprofits

Betsy DeVos continues to remain committed to improving the school system in the United States. It was recently discovered that she has been supporting the educational sector as well as educational nonprofits through large donations over the years. While many of her critics focus on her political donations, they pale in comparison to the amount of money she has given to charity. She created the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation years ago with her husband in order to better support the charitable causes she believes in. It has donated close to $139 million to charities and other causes in the course of its existence.

The veil had to be lifted on the charity because Betsy DeVos put in her bid to serve as the secretary of education for the United States. It was discovered that the foundation donated more than $11 million to charities in 2015 and that 26 percent of that money went to the educational sector. More than $350,000 was also donated to educational reform groups who DeVos supports.

Over the years, Betsy DeVos has done a whole lot more to change the way that the school system in the U.S. functions. She has created many educational organizations that have supported school choice. While many of her critics are opposed to creating vouchers and other programs that help to pay for the costs of attending charter and private schools for younger students, she continues to support legislation that would use public funds to do exactly that.

Betsy DeVos has been villainized on numerous occasions by Democrats and other lawmakers who don’t see eye to eye with her point of view. School choice has been called a conservative cause that is aimed at tearing the public school system down. DeVos has been very clear that this is not what she is fighting for. She recently commented that most American students will continue to attend public schools but that she would like to help those students whose families would like to see them attending a charter or private school. The truth is that school choice legislation benefits low income families, and it has been found that Latino families in America are some of its biggest supporters.

Betsy DeVos currently works with Mars Hill Bible Church and the Foundation for Excellence in Education as a member of their boards. She is also the chairman of the Windquest group, which is a private company that invests in a spread of industries in the United States. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in business economics from Calvin College and has been a part of the political scene ever since. She now works to make the kinds of changes in the school system of the USA that will serve students for years to come.
