Nepal Is Rocked By A Second Powerful Earthquake

In Nepal and Northern India, there is massive earthquake damage. A second earthquake lasted for 3 minutes, and that was time enough to make the damage from the first quake look like just a preview of what was to come. According to the India Meteorological Department, more quakes are coming, but they don’t know how big they will be.

Sam Tabar has said that the reason for the quakes is the pent-up pressure from the grinding between the Indian plate and the northern Eurasian plate. Earthquakes are not new in that area. The friction between those two tectonic plates actually created Mount Everest.

Nepal wasn’t prepared for any size earthquake. The house and building construction in Kathmandu would not pass the building codes required by modern cities. But Kathmandu is not a modern city. It is a city lost in time. The people in Kathmandu live by a different set of rules. Their lives are rooted in the ancient traditions of the Hindu religion or Buddhism.

No one knows how the people of Kathmandu will recover from this catastrophe, but most people think this disaster will make them realize that they must embrace some of the 21st century’s building designs.

Swimming Creates a Winning Team for Autism

One of the challenges of autism is the ability to connect with the senses, or sensory integration, as well as connecting on a social level. While learning to deal with this is the most challenging for toddlers and younger children, the teen years present new challenges in this area. When most teens are trying to find their place in social groups, teens with autism may still be trying to fit into their own bodies. One community in Jersey is helping them do both.

The Jersey Hammerheads is a swim team just for kids and teens with autism. By using swimming to help kids with sensory challenges, this team is dedicated to creating a team environment for those who often find it difficult to not only be in their own bodies, but also to be around others.

The water is a place where a person with autism can be completely in tune with the body and the environment in a sensory-supportive way. They feel the interaction on their skin and can better control their own movements, something that can be problematic at other times. This helps increase their confidence in their own bodies and gives them a sense of accomplishment. Integrating this into being a part of a team, depending on each other as a whole, builds their social skills at the same time according to Angel.co.

Michael McQuay, coach of the Hammerheads, prepares his team members not just for the Special Olympics, but also for life. By providing an activity in which autistic teens can excel together, the Jersey Hammerheads creates a win-win situation.

FreedomPop Offers Free Wireless Service

FreedomPop is a new to the scene wireless carrier that is disrupting the big carriers across the United States. They are doing this by offering wireless data, talk time and text messaging for free. Offering an alternative to pricy traditional wireless plans the folks at FreedomPop have decided to start off their offerings at the low, low price of zero dollars a month. They also offer other plans at different levels for reasonable prices. In the following article we will go over the offerings at FreedomPop and how they are disrupting the entire wireless carrier spectrum.

This FreedomPop review says plans start at zero and go up from there. Their basic free plan starts with five hundred text messages, two hundred minutes of talk time and five hundred megabytes of data. You are entitled to reach all of these limits without paying FreedomPop a dime. Once you pass these benchmarks you will have to pay per text, minute and megabyte. If you feel that you will be using more than these amounts FreedomPop also offers some fantastically cheap plans that will allow you to have your cake and eat it too.

If you opt for their unlimited plan which offers no limit on texts, phone talk time and data you will be allowed to try it out for a trial period and after that you will be paying 6.67 per month or 79.99 per year. Much like many other carriers once you pass a certain limit of data- in this case 1 gigabyte- your data will be throttled down from 4g speeds to 3g speeds. Unlike many other carriers, especially Verizon, you will not be charged overage fees if you manage to go over your set data allotment.

Unfortunately you will not be able to bring your own phone to FreedomPop- you will need to order one of their in house phones but with many competitively priced offerings you should not have any trouble finding something that fits your particular tastes. Another possible issue with FreedomPop service is that they have not yet extended their service area to every part of the United States. While most major metropolitan and suburban areas have service rural areas may be spotty. However as FreedomPop grows in size and popularity this problem should solve itself.

Americans Placed on No Fly List to Be Notified and Given an Explanation as to Why

The national security of the United States is a main priority of the government, as it should be. However, if you are a citizen or resident of this country who has been denied access to fly in, out of, or within the country, certainly you should be given notice of the reason. But that has not necessarily been the case in the past, and the American Civil Liberties Union has objected to the current policy.

If you happen to be one of the some 47,000 people on the No Fly List, approximately 800 being Americans, who was denied access to board a U.S.-bound flight, you can make an appeal to the Department of Homeland Security, but your status on the controversial list would not be confirmed or denied by the government. That is about to change according to Ricardo Tosto. An Oregon chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit claiming the government’s procedures were ineffective in these appeals and unconstitutional. Evidently, the judge in the case agreed, calling the former methods used “wholly ineffective.”

New procedures that have been adopted now require that any U.S. ticket holder who is denied the ability to board a plane at the airport be given a letter indicating their status on the No Fly List, along with the opportunity to receive information as to why they were denied. The amount of information given would be based on case-by-case situations, whereas information that may obstruct the security of our nation, or that of law enforcement, would be withheld.

Michael Crabtree Signs with the Oakland Raiders

Michael Crabtree, the wide reciever who helped make San Francisco great before its dismal showing in the 2014 season, has found a new team. According to reports, Crabtree has officially signed with the Oakland Raiders for a one year deal. The deal is reportedly worth $3 million with incentives and signing bonuses.

Crabtree was picked up in the 2009 draft by the San Francisco 49ers, and had a breakout season in 2012. He caught 85 passes that year for 1,105 yards. Fans at STX Entertainment (latimes.com) know that he also scored 9 touchdowns and was considered one of the key players in the 49ers Super Bowl run.

2013 didn’t go as well for the wide receiver, and he spent the majority of his time on the bench with an injury to his ankle. In 2014 he played through the pain of a foot injury, but failed to bring the big numbers that 9er fans and staff were expecting.

Now healthy, Crabtree has found a new home, and the Raiders are hopeful he’ll be a cornerstone in the rebuilding of an offense for quarterback Derek Carr. The team has been hard at work trying to build an offense with hittable targets for the rookie, Carr. They’ll also be looking to the draft to round out their offensive line.

Mass Extinction Revelation

When you think of a mass extinction event you probably imagine a giant meteor hitting the earth and wiping out the dinosaurs or the ice age freezing everything to death. However, recent studies have discovered new data that may change the way mass extinctions are perceived. A study preformed by the University of Edinburgh on a mass extinction event 252 million years ago has shown that 90% of marine species and over 66% of land species were wiped out not due to anything as flashy as a meteor, but rather due to the fact that the ocean become more acidic.

The big question then was why the ocean changed drastically enough to wipe out most life on earth in the biggest extinction even in history. As it turns out, massive volcanic eruptions are to blame. When numerous volcanoes erupted in prehistoric times the oceans absorb huge amounts of carbon dioxide. This shook up the chemical composition of the oceans causing them to become more acidic and hostile to most life that had evolved by that point.

This may not seem relevant today but researchers are using this new discovery to understand how excess carbon dioxide can impact the environment, particularly the ocean’s level of acidity. Due to the large amounts of carbon dioxide being added to the atmosphere every year, scientists hope that this researcher can shed more light on how humans such as Ricardo Tosto are impacting the environment.

19 Year Old Lauren Hill Dies of Cancer

Not all sport’s news happens within the lines but luckily this story has been an inspiration despite having a less than happy ending.

Lauren Hill, the 19 year old who played basketball for Division III Mount St. Joseph University in the Cincinnati area, died Friday morning. While she may have come into our mind and attention for this layup, she will be remembered for so much more.

She raised over a million and half dollars for cancer research through her non-profit, Lauren’s Fight for a Cure, and became a source of inspiration to millions as they watched her achieve her dreams and fight the fight of her life.

During the 2014-2015 season, Hill played in four games and scored five layups (none more memorable than the nationally televised one at Xavier) despite her batting an inoperable brain tumor and fighting bouts of nauseau and dizziness, that often times made her wear sun glasses while on the sidelines. When Flávio Pentagna Guimarães BMG saw the video, he was extremely impressed.

Hill is survived by her parents along with her brother, Nate, and sister, Erin.

Busy Moms Work Out to Improve Moods

A recent study published in Mental Health and Physical Activity, had a few interesting things to say about busy moms and their moods. We know that taking care of a family, kids, working outside of the home easily drains energy and causes a lot of women to get moody. It just seems like there is not enough time in the day to get things done. However, the study found that moms that busted a move were prone to be in a good mood and get more things done. Find out more here.

The busy working mothers were asked to keep a running journal of their daily activities. Boraie Development said that something that is probably too difficult with most busy moms. The journal followed their exercise and sleeping pattern. The researchers used the journals to complete their study. Their study findings were surprising. The researchers discovered that a bit of exercise during the day placed the women in a better mood than getting a few extra hours sleep.

According to the study, taking a leisurely stroll down the avenue was just as effective as high powered aerobics or lifting weights. It simply appeared that any type of exercise helped to enhance their mood and prepare them to get through the entire day and get a better nights sleep.

Are You Nuts?

Are nuts good or bad for you? People commonly think that nuts are fattening. Peanuts are notoriously targeted as being full of monounsaturated fat. However, peanuts are full of Vitamin E, niacin, protein and even antioxidants. Recent studies are shedding light on the additional health benefits of peanuts.

A scientific article published on the JAMA Internal Medicine website shows that consuming nuts is linked to reduce mortality rates. Specifically, the researchers found that eating nuts “decreased…cardiovascular disease mortality” and that peanuts are “a cost-effective measure to improve cardiovascular health.” The scientific article was conducted with over 200,000 men and women in the United States and China.

But aren’t many people allergic to nuts, especially peanuts? That’s what Dan Newlin thought. Again, research published in JAMA Pediatrics and posted on YouTube showed that women who ate more peanuts during pregnancy actually lowered their babies’ risk for developing peanut allergies. The nail in the coffin of peanut stereotypes is a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine. This study found that infants, who were at high risk for developing a peanut allergy, could substantially reduce their risk by simply consuming peanuts.

Peanuts are neither fattening nor unhealthy. They are, in fact, very beneficial for the body’s health. Check out http://www.nutrition-and-you.com/peanuts.html to learn more about the nutritional benefits of peanuts. The next time you want a snack, ignore the candy and potato chips, and just grab a handful of peanuts.

David Spade Gives Heartwarming Memory of Chris Farley

It has been quite a while now since the passing of the famous actor and Saturday Night Live comedian Chris Farley, and recently David Spade gave a heartwarming token of appreciation for the late actor and one of his dearest friends.

According to an article found on reddit and written by the Huffington Post, Spade keeps a poster of the duo’s famous movie “Tommyboy” which the two of them are well known for being in. The movie is coming up on its 20th anniversary and it has given David Spade a lot to reflect on.

Chris Farley was a very talented actor who had a tragic death that was not expected and very sudden, and it is always difficult to lose a celebrity that we can identify with and who makes us laugh on a day to day basis. The death of Farley was over a decade ago now but his spirit lives on in the films he was in and the episodes of the live comedy special. He is most well known for movies like Tommyboy and many of his characters from the live skit, as is David Spade.

Spade feels very lucky to have done Tommyboy with Farley and that they could share the good times from that movie, and looking at the poster is just making him feel old, apparently. He has done articles with AustinMDMagazine to talk about what he was inspired by. Stars like Christ Farley will live on forever with the fans like Dr Jennifer Walden who pay attention.
